Privacy policy

The short version

SpeakerEZ runs in your browser. Your presentations and notes are processed on your device and are never sent to SpeakerEZ. They go to Google only if you choose to open a deck from, or export it to, your own Google Drive. Like any website, our web server briefly logs technical details of each request (such as your IP address), and we count visits with privacy-friendly analytics. Adverts, when shown, come from Google with Google's own consent choices.

Who is responsible for your data

SpeakerEZ is run by Giuseppe Sollazzo, who is the data controller for the processing described here. Contact: speakerez.com@gmail.com. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, as we are not required to.

PowerPoint files

When you open a .pptx file, it is read on your device. When you export, the new file is created on your device and downloaded. If you ask for a new Google Slides deck from a PowerPoint file, the file is uploaded directly from your browser to your own Google Drive.

Google Slides and Google Drive

Drafts saved on your device

So you don't lose rehearsal edits, SpeakerEZ saves unsaved edits in your browser's storage (IndexedDB) on this device; for PowerPoint files this includes a copy of the file. It also remembers your teleprompter settings. This stays on your device and is never sent to us. Drafts are removed when you export or discard them, and you can delete everything at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. Details are in the cookie policy.

Analytics

We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which we run on our own server (plausible.puntofisso.net), so the data is not shared with a third party. Plausible sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. To count unique visitors it combines your IP address and browser details with a random value that is replaced every 24 hours and turns them into a one-way code; the IP address itself is never stored. What we keep is aggregate: pages viewed, referring sites, browser, device type and country.

Advertising

To keep SpeakerEZ free, the notes view and the teleprompter may show Google AdSense adverts; the landing page shows none. When adverts are shown, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure them and, only with your consent, to personalise them. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, Google's consent message asks for your choice before this happens, and you can change it at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of each page. You can also manage Google's advertising at adssettings.google.com or opt out at youronlinechoices.com. Your slides, notes and Google account data are never shared with advertisers.

Who receives data

We do not sell personal data and do not share it with anyone else.

International transfers

Google may process data in the United States and other countries. Google relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension to it and Standard Contractual Clauses to protect such transfers.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to: be informed; access your personal data; have it corrected; have it erased; restrict its processing; data portability; object to processing based on legitimate interests (including the server logs and analytics above); and withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that happened before (for adverts, use Cookie settings). You are not subject to decisions based solely on automated processing.

Because we keep so little, often there is nothing to access or delete beyond the 14-day server logs; email speakerez.com@gmail.com and we will reply within one month. For data held by Google, use Google's own tools at myaccount.google.com.

You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or, if you are in the EU or EEA, to the data protection authority where you live or work. We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concern first.

Children

SpeakerEZ is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly process their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update it here and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced on the home page.
